FINALLY NPT OVER LOR !!!
After preparations for months, finally Node Proficiency Test (NPT), was conducted on Tuesday night 2000hs.
This week, we did alot of preparations of vehicle, equipment, water, POL, ration ...
We were also to take a test prior NPT, to gauage our knowledge. We were told to move out on Tuesday 2000hs, with 6 other nodes, around 30 vehicles and 100 personels, very big scale ex. It seems like we were going to war. We were nervous, excited but well prepared for this day. We got6 phases and 4 displacement. First to West Bukit Timah, Elephant Hill, Mandai and Finally Kranji Dam.
First deployment was West Bukit Timah, the setup was fast however, however the links could not go through and it took our guys few hours to troubleshoot. We afraid that this hitch could cost us our NPT to fail, as passed the timmings and % of links up. Wednesday afternoon displace to Elephant Hill.
I heard before that Elephant Hill has one of the best view in Singapore, but the most dangerous deployment area, because it is at the top of a hill with a very steep slope. Must drive carefully. From West Bukit Timah, we drove until Pasir Laba camp, wah the camp damn big, the new SISPEC is there. There we drove the unimog one by one up hill. Wah the view up is magnificent. Upon reaching deployment, we setup and link was up very soon , everyone was very happy and hope this might score us more points.
At 0000, we were displaced to Kranji Dam instead of Mandai, as we were behind time due to the rainy weather. Reached Kranji around 0200. As it was a civilian areas, many people were looking at us, why face green color, point gun towards the road, prone at bus-stop ... Around noon, we saw a rover frm Signal Institue, guess they were here for a ex. I remembered the last time I came Kranji Dam for the similar ex. At around 1500 we displaced back to camp, feeling damn happy and excitedf finally its over.
Reached camp was told there would be a parade and later a ceremony presentation by CO in the evening and 1700 was the first rehearsal. We had to camou on and kiwi our boots black, so after parking our vehicle, locking arms in cupboard, we camou on and went to canteen to eat. At 1700 first rehearsal, wah lau that RSM we so tired still kpkb, u try 3 days never sleep well and then attend a parade. The parade commander was our OC and sergant major was our enick.
The parade started, our OC and enick had camou on so garang. Arrival of CO, homat senjata, then inspection, short speech and presentation of our long awaited and deserved signal badge. CO would put on the badge on every person involve in NPT personally, Imagine how long it took. First time i saw CO up close when we fitted on my badge. Around 1 hour later after fixing on 100 men badges the parade was over. We took some pictures and then sent arms. OC gave us tomorrow half day at least a small reward.
Our junior batch 3238, reported losing something, we were least likely suspect because we were out of camp. In the end, it was found in one of the specs bunk. For this stupid thing, they were to be confined till next week.
Next morning woke up early, clear stuffs then draw arms to clean. Around 1230 we wore CV waiting to book out. Anthony, Xiang Xin and I headed for Orhard , as XIang Xin friend is an optician at Plaza Sing Optical 88. We walked around and went to had lunch at Taka food court. Ordered "OMU" it rice wrapped inside egg and served with special sauce. Mine had some chicken cutlet and real crab meat, not bad very tasty $8 + a free drink.
After that Xiang Xin brought me to Zara to show me the shirt he bought. I fancied the shoes there, similar to those white color adidas but guess no one wanted to serve me so went to PUMA. Finally PUMA first boutique in Singapore. Walked around PUMA and Stadium, finally bought a pair of shoes at PUMA. Then we go Heeren to walk around and Xiang XIn to collect his Levis Jeans. Finally reached PS Optical 88, where his friend recommended us alot of spectacles. I guess I am less trendy chose those very formal looking specs. I tested my eye, well my vision had improved by alittle and found out got astigma. Paid $198 for everything, guess this is my most expensive spectacles ever made. Wednesday ready but in camp so CNY eve go Parkway collect.
